# Understanding the Value Dashboard

> Track the business value and impact of your MX products.

The Value Dashboard shows your institution’s growth in deposits and lending, then splits that growth between MX-engaged users and all other users and compares it to peer institutions.

To access the dashboard, log into the Intelligence Platform. The home page displays the Value Dashboard.

## Reading the Dashboard

Select a quarter, then compare it with the prior quarter or the same quarter a year earlier. When comparing MX-engaged users with all other users, compare growth rate per user, because the two groups are rarely the same size.

A user is MX-engaged when they take any of the following actions during the starting quarter:

* Interact with any of the following [PFM widgets](https://docs.mx.com/products/experience/pfm/widget-overviews/index): Budgets, Cash Flow, Connections, Debts, FinStrong, Goals, Investments, Net Worth, Recurring Transactions, Spending, Trends
* Create a PFM or Mobile Banking categorization rule, manually categorize or tag a transaction, or select an offer (such as through a call to action or banner ad)
* Scroll through any [Financial Insights](https://docs.mx.com/products/experience/insights.md) widget or select a Financial Insights call to action
* Use the [Connect Widget](https://docs.mx.com/connect.md) in any product to search for an institution, manually add an account, or move through the connection flow

### Measuring Growth from MX-Engaged Users

We measure growth from MX-engaged users against the baseline quarter, which is the start of the comparison period. For example, in a Q2 year-over-year comparison, the baseline quarter is Q2 of the previous year.

How we attribute a user's balance change depends on when they engaged with MX:

* **Engaged during the baseline quarter:** We compare user balances during the baseline quarter with their current balances and attribute the difference to MX engagement.
* **First engaged after the baseline quarter began:** We measure user balance changes from the day they first engaged to the end of the period.
* **Not attributed:** We exclude users who engaged before (but not during) the baseline quarter, users who never engaged, and users who aren't on the MX platform.

## Understanding Peer Comparison

In the peer-comparison chart, the industry peers benchmark is the median growth rate of all institutions in the group, and the MX top performers benchmark is the median growth rate of the top 25% of MX clients in the group.

Both benchmarks come from a peer group of institutions in the same asset tier, country, and institution type as yours:

* The six asset tiers are based on total assets: under \$500M, \$500M to \$2B, \$2B to \$10B, \$10B to \$50B, \$50B to \$250B, and over \$250B.
* Canadian and U.S. institutions are compared only within their own country.
* Credit unions and banks are compared only within their own institution type.

## Determining Total User Count

The first card on the Deposits and Lending tabs shows your institution’s total user count. How we get it depends on your institution type:

* **Credit unions:** We pull the total user count from the call report.
* **Banks:** We estimate the total user count with an internal model, marked as **(Estimated)** on the dashboard. The model divides your institution’s total reported core deposits by the average core deposit balance per user on the MX platform.

## Data Sources and Timing

Each card’s tooltip shows its data source. Call report data comes from regulatory filings with the NCUA (U.S. credit unions), the FDIC (U.S. banks), or OSFI (Canadian institutions), and is available about 10 weeks after each quarter ends. MX platform data comes from users on the MX platform.

## Data Quality Alerts

The dashboard displays a banner underneath when one of these conditions may affect your data's accuracy or freshness:

* **Mergers and acquisitions:** A merger or acquisition at your institution during the selected comparison period can skew your growth metrics. To keep peer benchmarks fair, institutions with this activity are excluded from peer groups for that period.
* **Infrequent held account updates:** If your held account data updates less often than once per month, your growth metrics might not reflect recent activity. To refresh your data more often, contact your MX representative.
* **Frequent user purging:** If your institution removes users from the MX platform between comparison quarters, your user growth may appear lower than it is, because removed users aren't counted. Keep this in mind when comparing your results to peers.
