Microdeposit Guide

MX Microdeposits is an additional verification method within the Connect widget that allows you to verify account details and navigate the complex process of using microdeposits and the automated clearing house (ACH) system.

Partners must have the microdeposits feature enabled by MX. Please contact MX if this feature has not been enabled.

Data Retention

Microdeposits that remain in the status INITIATED, REQUESTED, or DEPOSITED for 21 or more days, are soft-deleted from the MX Platform. This data retention only replies to the Microdeposits product.

Microdeposit Limits

On the third attempt with incorrect amounts, the microdeposit will move to a PREVENTED status and the process can no longer continue. If the user wishes to try again, they'll have to start a new microdeposit verification from the beginning.

Users can verify up to three accounts per email address using microdeposits. For instance, if a user had four different accounts all associated with the same email, only three accounts could be verified using microdeposits.

Process Flow

Verifying account information with microdeposits involves two broad processes: first requesting microdeposits, and then the end user verifying the amounts.

The following diagrams illustrate these two flows, specifically views shown to the end user when using the Connect Widget.

Requesting requesting

Verifying verifying

Block lists

Partners can prevent microdeposit verifications with certain institutions by using a routing number block list. Institutions associated with any routing number on a block list will not be available for microdeposit verifications.

If you wish to create a block list, please provide MX with a one-column CSV file containing the numbers to block. A sample file can be downloaded here.

Status Polling

Webhooks for microdeposit status changes are triggered when a status changes. However, the actual status of the microdeposit guid updates every minute. You can force a status update by calling the read microdeposit endpoint.
